John Novotny

January 9, 1933 — April 19, 2017

John Novotny, 84, of Motley, MN passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Lake Region Health Care Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN. Services for John will be at 11:00AM, Tuesday, April 25 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Motley, with Father Joe Korf officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7PM, Monday, April 24 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and from 10:30AM until the time of services at the church on Tuesday. Motley American Legion Post #124 will be pallbearers and perform the Military Honors. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, MN.

John was born January 9, 1933 to Joseph and Matilda (Helstein) Novotny in Rusk County, Wisconsin. John enjoyed cutting logs and working in the woods. He was a dairy farmer for many years. John served his country during the Korean War in the 2nd Infantry Division in Tacoma, WA. He was very active in the Motley American Legion Post 124; was past Commander and a Post Adjutant for 25 plus years, as well as an All Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW and the Korean War Veterans Association. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing bingo.

John is survived by his brother, Joseph (Judy) Novotny of Motley, MN; sister, Mary Cicha of Glen Flora, WI; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Matilda; infant brother, Francis; and brother in law, Joe Cicha. Services have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
