John Mr. Fix-ItMohrlant, 62, of Staples, died unexpectedly at home Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 5 at 1:00 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples. Friends may visit during the hour prior to services. Interment with military honors will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Camp Ripley at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
John David Morhlant was born October 11, 1944 in Ft. Bragg, CA to Edward and Louise (Coverston) Mohrlant. He graduated from high school in Detroit Lakes and from TVI vocational school in St. Paul. He was united in marriage to Ruby, his wife of 37 years in Watertown, SD October 31, 1969. He served in the Navy, working on aircraft, and then as an MP in the Army. Following his military service he worked for the State of Minnesota prisons systems as a paint foreman. He became disabled in 1986 and began his own handyman service. He particularly enjoyed working with senior citizens in Wadena and the surrounding areas. He was a long-time member and past board member of the Minnesota Companion Bird Association. John loved to visit with people and made friends wherever he went.
John will be deeply missed by his wife, Ruby; his children, Jesse (Christa) Mohrlant, Oahu, HI, Jade (Petra) Mohrlant, Ft. Leonardwood, MO, and Rachel (Jim) Bystrom, Luck, WI; his mom, Louise Morhlant, Detroit Lakes; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and three siblings, Diane (Kenneth) Kiehl, Detroit Lakes, Edward (Phyllis) Mohrlant, St. Louis Park, and Linda Achterling, Detroit Lakes.
