John J. McConn, age 80, of Motley, passed away late Friday evening at his home near Motley. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday at the Randall Funeral Home in Randall, MN. Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Randall Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to Services on Thursday. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, MN.
John Joseph McConn was born on June 20, 1926, in Fairmont, ND, the son of Jesse and Martha (Sikorski) McConn. The youngest boy of 11 children he graduated from high school at the age of 17. Immediately after his schooling he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 3, 1944. He served his country in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. Following his tours of duty John returned to Minnesota and went to work for Cargill, Inc. retiring after 34 ½ years of service. In 1953 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Krause, to this union 6 children were born. He lived life to the fullest completing his last deer hunt less than a month before his death. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and the outdoors. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post # 230 Columbia Heights, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and six brothers. John is mourned in passing by his children, Wayne (Kim Reinhart) McConn of Holmen, WI, Debbie (Dave) Soukup of Motley, MN, Sherry (Kevin) Hancock of Cokato, MN, Helen (Denny) Beith of Kingston, MN, Lori of New Hope, MN, and Janelle (Mike Severin) of Center City, MN; 15 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Lucille, Janette, and JoAnn; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Services are entrusted to the Randall Funeral Home.
