John Frederick Lohmiller, born on March 14, 1941, to Waldo and Virginia (Bode) Lohmiller, in Davenport, IA, passed away on November 28, 2024, at Essentia Health in Brainerd, MN surrounded by his family.
John graduated from the Colorado School of Mines as a metallurgical engineer and later worked for 3M in St. Paul for 35 years, including time overseas in Norway and Belgium. John married his wife, Penny McLeod on April 20, 1963, and together they raised their family.
John enjoyed fishing and eagerly anticipated his annual “Fishing with Grandpa” trip to Canada. He also loved spending time in his gardens, woodworking, and watching his kids and grandkids participate in sports. His love for the outdoors and his unwavering dedication to his family created lasting memories for all who knew him.
John is survived by his children, Beckie Catton and Chip (Kari) Lohmiller; grandchildren, Matt (Emily) Catton, Katie Catton, Chelsea Ekeberg, Morgan (Dalton) Rickard, Sannah Lohmiller, and Macie Lohmiller; great-grandson, Oliver Catton; and brother, Chuck (Kristin) Lohmiller and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Penny, and his son-in-law, Mike Catton.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
