John F. Hetman, age 88, of Staples, passed away Saturday evening at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 noon Thursday, January 17, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. Interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery at Staples. Wake Services will be Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples with Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 and Parish Prayers at 7:45 PM
John was born on February 2, 1919, in Brockway Township, Morrison County, Minnesota, the son of Ignatz and Mary (Einigar) Hetman. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He enlisted in the United States Army serving his country proudly and honorably in Europe during World War II. On August 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Natalla Groth in Opale, MN. To this union one daughter, Lucille, was born. John and Tillie were able to share over 61 years of marriage together. After purchasing their farm near Staples they cut and sawed the trees for lumber to build their house. John worked for many years for Tyrrels Implement and then for Todd County on road maintenance for 16 years. After retiring John enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and often took long walks in the woods just being in nature. In July of 2007, the couple moved into Lakewood Manor and in December John moved to Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe and Paul; and sisters, Peggy and Rose. John will be sadly missed by his wife, Tillie of Staples; daughter, Lucille (Jose) Sanchez of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Victoria, Natalie, Ramona (Doug) Jacobson; great grandchildren, Anthony, Evelania, Melina, and Olivia; brothers, Frank (Ruth) Hetman of Minneapolis, and Richard Hetman of Holdingford; and sisters, Angie (Roger) Bartlett and Betty Frakes, both of Minneapolis.
