John Hatheway, age 97, of Hackensack, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009. He was born August 22, 1911 to Jasper and Mary Hatheway. John and his wife, Grace, moved to Hackensack in November of 1942 from Clinton, Iowa. He managed and played on the Hackensack baseball team in the late 1940's and 1950's. He was the manager of the Hackensack Municipal Liquor Store and was a member of the Hackensack Town Council. He was very active in community events and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
John is survived by his wife, Grace; children: Sylvia Carlson, Lorri Henning (Tim); grandchildren: John Carlson, Ron Hatheway, Mike Hatheway, Brian Hatheway, Chris Garoutte, Mike Henning; great grandchildren: Anna Carlson, Ashley Carlson, Cole Garoutte, Caleb Garoutte, John Henning; great-great grandchild, Cayden; and daughter-in-law, Avis Hatheway.
He was preceded in death by his son, Russ, son-in-law, Walt, grandson, Derek, his parents, and several brothers and sisters.
Services will be 11 AM on Thursday, April 2 at Union Congregational Church in Hackensack, with Pastor Harris Hostager officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
