John Berg

March 11, 1921 — February 25, 2006

John Everett Berg, 84, passed away February 25, 2006 in Brainerd, Minnesota. Memorial Services for John will be 11:00 AM, Friday, March 3 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with Reverend Lilja Behr officiating. Military Honors will be provided by Brainerd American Legion Post 255. Following the service Johns cremated remains will be united with those of his late wife Rachaels in the Cascade Mountains. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the donors choice.
John was born March 11, 1921 in Fergus Falls, MN to John Edward and Pearl (Tommerdahl) Berg. He married Rachael Elznic in 1943. John spent the next three years in the Army. Upon his return, John and Ray moved to Seattle, WA, where he began his banking career and golfing pastime. Shortly after his wifes death in 1996, John moved to Minnesota to be near family. Johns battle with diabetes never gave him the strength to get better.

He went to North Dakota Agriculture College in Fargo, ND from 1939 to 1943 attaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. John enlisted in the Army on April 6, 1943, attaining the rank of Captain and serving in the European and Asiatic-Pacific theaters. John received many medals including the Silver Star and Purple Heart, before his discharge in 1946. John served his community and was an active member of the Lake City Elks Lodge 1800, Seattle Valley Scottish Rite Masonic Center, and Theta Chi Fraternity.

John is survived by his sister, Ula (Richard) Lagergren, of Brainerd; three nephews, John T Rutten, of Walker, MN, Stephen Vollmer, of Nisswa, MN, and John Vollmer, of Brainerd, MN; and three nieces, Teddy (Erick) Mickelson, of Poway, CA, Pam McCarty, of Houston, TX, and Dena (Philip) Bickhardt, of Morgan, MN. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rachael (Elznic); and his sister, Leona Rutten.
