Johanna Mary Tweed, age 76, of Emily, was taken peacefully to Our Lord and Savior on June 25th, 2011. She was born to Adam and Margaret Schmit on July 1st, 1934 in Loretta MN.
After battling throat cancer successfully in 1993, which resulted in her losing her voice, Johanna retired and moved back to the area she loved, Emily, MN. She enjoyed being in the north country, planting her gardens, watching the birds and wildlife, attending church, playing cards and being with her family and friends. Johanna will be missed for her big hugs and her beautiful smile. She had an undetermined will to battle all the illnesses that came along these past few years. Doing so with so much grace and dignity but never complaining. Her faith in the Lord grew more and more and was an inspiration to those around her. Johanna touched everyone's life that she meet and she will be missed deeply and by many.
She is survived by her children: Michael Pokorny, James Pokorny, Patricia Swenson (Terry), Ann Marie Raph (Kelly), Harlan Tweed (Janice); brothers: Joe Schmit (Shirley), Robert Schmit (Karen); sister; Margaret Schmit; grandchildren: Shane Heyn, Jason Heyn (Kaylea), Katrina Raph, Kyle Raph; and great grandchild, Myles Heyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Friday July 1st at St. Emily Catholic Church, Emily, with Father Mike Patullo officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, from 5 to 7 PM, and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
