Joan Berg

May 23, 1941 — August 12, 2009

Joan Charlene Berg was born on May 23, 1941, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Gust and Gladys (Clausen) Wagner. She graduated from Proctor High School and went on to earn her RN degree at St. Lukes School of Nursing. On August 3, 1963, she was united in marriage to Clayton Berg, in Proctor, MN. Following her schooling she went to work for St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth eventually becoming Head Nurse of Pediatrics until her retirement in 2003 after 41 years of service. She was an active member of the Minnesota Nurses Association and after the couple moved to Crosslake she became involved in teaching CPR to Senior classes at Pequot Lakes. She also was a car seat technician for the Crow Wing County Passenger Safety Coalition and was a substitute nurse for Pequot Lakes Public Schools. Among the things she enjoyed were gardening, especially flowers, riding her ATV, going for pontoon rides, quilt making, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. Joan was a special person who touched the lives of everyone from her patients and coworkers, to her friends and family, and especially her grandchildren who will dearly miss their Nanny.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gust and Gladys; brother, Art Wagner; and sister, Dorothy Zack. Joan will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her best friend and husband of 46 years, Clayton; children, Scott (Beth) Berg of Duluth, MN, Kristy Simota of Duluth, MN, and Mark Berg of Moose Lake, MN; grandchildren, Kaleb, Daphne, and Lars; Ruger, her dog; and many nieces and nephews.
