Jerry Patrick Cavin, 85, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2023, at Shiloh assisted Living in Pequot Lakes, MN.
Jerry was born to Roy Fred Cavin and Bessie Marie Wood in Dallam County, Texas, on January 3, 1938. He attended Texline High School where he met “The Love of His Life” Marilyn Gail Wheeler. They married on December 21, 1956, and proceeded to start their journey in life together moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado in the mid-1960s.
Jerry worked at, ran and owned service stations until he was recruited as an Area Field Manager for U-Haul Company where he spent well over 20 years covering the southern half of Colorado. He was a wonderfully dedicated husband and father, always providing for the family. Jerry and Marilyn raised 5 children: Jerri Lynn, Kathy, Steve, Dawna and Caryn, 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Jerry was an avid outdoorsman, mastered stream fishing for trout and was always willing to teach family members (and any others) the skills of fishing streams where he would never fail to catch the nicest trout. Camping trips every summer for 2 weeks were always a greatly anticipated treat for the entire family. He enjoyed elk and deer hunting along with having a deep admiration of Native American culture and history. Jerry and Marilyn were modern day explorers of any rocks and precious stones that caught their eye and devoted hours daily and many motorhome trips to explore the wonders of mother nature. Jerry spent years in the El Paso County Search and Rescue where he was instrumental in searches for lost or stranded hikers, hunters and motorists.
Jerry is reunited with Marilyn (and many other family members and friends) where they continue their journey together for eternity. He is survived by Jerri Lyn, Kathy, Steve and Dawna.
The Cavin family is greatly appreciative of the staff of Shiloh Assisted Living Facility, Danielle Anderson with Twin City Physicians and Knute Nelson Hospice Staff. All were caring and devoted to the comfort of Jerry.
Jerry’s strong, gentle and giving soul is sorely missed on earth, but will be enjoyed by all for God’s eternity.
