Jerome Malzahn

May 15, 1928 — November 18, 2008

Jerome "Jim" D. Malzahn, 80, Fifty Lakes, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral services will be Saturday 2 PM, Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Faith Lutheran Church in Swanburg, MN with Rev Marlys Korman officiating. Interment to follow in Swanburg Cemetery. Friends are welcome to gather from 5 until 7 PM on Friday evening at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Jim Malzahn was born on May 15, 1928 in Good Thunder, MN, son of George and Esther (Osmundson) Malzahn. He entered the US Navy. Following his honorable discharge he was married to Virginia Lyons in Minneapolis. He worked for CB&Q Railroad then BN in freight operations. He was married to Mary Jean Lee in Minneapolis. He worked for Champlin Elementary School as head custodian. Mary Jean died in 1994. He retired and worked part time for 1st Presbyterian Church in St. Cloud. He married Carol Johnson on October 4, 1997 in Princeton. They moved to Fifty Lakes in September of 2001. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Swanburg and Crosslake American Legion. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, gardening, the outdoors and loved his pets.

Jim Malzahn is survived by his wife Carol; children, Susan (James) Gronlund of Ramsey, MN, Jeffrey (JoAnn) Malzahn of Ortonville, MN, David Malzahn of Duluth, MN, Michael Malzahn of Minneapolis, MN, James (Shannon) Malzahn of Becker, MN; step-children, Don (Shari) Bennett of Andover, MN, Dianne (Duane) Schuh of River Falls, WI, Lynne (Roger) Winkelman of Princeton, MN, Dean (Kathy) Johnson of Princeton, MN, Dennis (Kelley) Johnson of Princeton, MN, Darin Johnson of Princeton, MN, sister, Lois (Harold) Smith of Champlin, MN; 23 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Mary Jean; grandson, Thomas; an infant brother and his sister, Janice Smith.
