Jerald F. Farrington, 91, of Brainerd died on Monday, June 17, 2013 at Essentia Health/St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. A Memorial Service is planned for 11:00AM Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter, MN. Visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Jerry was born on June 12, 1922 in Sisseton, SD to Frank and Sadie (Doherty) Farrington. He was the youngest of 7 children and resided in New Effington, SD. His mother passed away when Jerry was 11 years old and then he moved with his Dad to Mantorville, MN. Jerry graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 1940. He was a graduate of Rochester Community College. Jerry was a World War II Veteran and was stationed in Alaska and Seattle WA. Jerry was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1946. Jerry married the mother of his three children, Nadine in 1947, later divorcing, and he and Nan were married on November 29, 1980 at Lutheran Church of The Cross in Nisswa, MN. Jerry and Nan resided previously in East Gull Lake, Pillager, (Lake Shamineau) Motley, and currently in Sylvan Township, Brainerd, MN. Jerry was a senior partner in the Kinship Program for many years, having 3 special young male friends. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and was a Minnesota Twins, Gopher, and Vikings fan. Jerry was involved with the Brainerd Community College Theatre Department acting in several of their musicals/plays in the 1980's, including his favorite role as the (Mayor Shin) in the Music Man. He liked reading until recently when his poor vision prevented him from doing so. He and Nan loved to dance and enjoyed dinners at local restaurants for many years. Jerry was a member of the American Legion including Little Falls and Brainerd Chapters. He was also a Boy Scout Leader in Little Falls in the 1960's. Jerry owned and worked for several small town newspapers including Mantorville, Olivia, Adams, and Fosston, MN in the past. He worked for Vocational Rehab and then employed by The Minnesota Board on Aging in the Twin Cities as a field representative before being able to transfer his office to the Crow Wing Social Services Office in Brainerd in 1979, retiring from the Board on Aging in 1985. Following his retirement, Jerry was hired by Richard and Steve Esser to be one of their wine consultants, a position he really enjoyed, working mainly in the Brainerd Essers Liquor Store. Jerry, as is Nan, were/are animal lovers and adopted their current dogs from H.A.R.T. in Baxter, MN. Jerry had been a member of the Lakeland Public TV Community Advisory Council since 1987 until his death. He was also a member of Rejoice Lutheran Church in Baxter, until its recent closure.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Nan; daughters, Anne and Lynn Farrington; son, Steve Farrington; step-son, Charles Knandel (Kim); grandchildren, Spencer Wiley-Farrington, Alysha and Ryan Knandel; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janice and Michael Day of Shaftsbury, Vermont; many special nieces, nephews and cousins; and his faithful canine companions, Bongo and Hunter, both adopted from H.A.R.T. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Sadie; brothers, S. Hugh, Donald and Warren, Rolland F., and Robert Farrington; sister, Lorna (Farrington) Brennan; and daughter-in-law, Sheila Wiley (Farrington). Memorials preferred to Lakeland Public Television, Heartland Animal Rescue of Baxter, and Pillager Fire Department's First Responders.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
