Jeanne Hunt

Jeanne Margaret Hunt, nee Mahlum, 89, of Nisswa, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 in Brainerd. A celebration of life will be bfrom 2-4:30p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Grandview Lodge Norway Center in Nisswa.

Jeanne was born May 2, 1928, in St. Cloud, MN, the daughter of Milton and Marie (Koop) Mahlum. In 1948 – on one of the hottest days ever, she married Norman Hunt. They made their home in the Brainerd Lakes Area until 1972 when they relocated to Fargo, ND for about 20 years. In 1994, they returned home.

At the age of 50, Jeanne graduated college and worked as a paralegal in Fargo - Moorhead. When they moved back to the Brainerd Area she assisted the family business, Hunt Technologies. She retired at age 75.

Jeanne was a true philanthropist. She opened not only her heart but her home. She started the first Fargo shelter for victims of domestic violence in her home. She and Norm always had an extra plate on the table or a bed made for those in need. Jeanne had a passion for politics and enjoyed intellectual pursuits. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and a good game of Liverpool Rummy, especially when she was winning. She wasn’t above stretching the rules to pull out the win. She loved genealogy and keeping up with family and friends on Facebook. Family was first and foremost for Jeanne.

She will be missed by her children, Steve (Sandy) Hunt, Thomas (Kathy) Hunt, Paul (Lynn) Hunt, Neil Hunt, Maria (Tim) Hunt O’Phelan, Joe (Julia) Hunt, and Sarah (Kurt) Hunt; son-in-law, Brett Mortenson; siblings, Breta Conlon and Bill “Monte” (Donna) Mahlum; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; daughter, Kate Hunt Mortenson; daughter-in-law, Tori Heide; granddaughter, Hannah Hunt; grandson, Kyle Hunt; sister, Mary; and brother, John.
