Jeanette Marie Kasel, 81, of Baxter, MN, passed away peacefully at her home in March 28, 2025,surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at 2:00pm at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd, MN with Father Scott Padrnos officiating. A visitation will take place at 1pm, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jeanette was born on January 23rd, 1944, in St. Paul, MN to Elda Gutzman (formerly Arons). She graduated from Our Lady of Peace High School in St. Paul in 1962, and married the love of her life, Leo Kasel, November 30th, 1963. Her unwavering faith has been the foundation of their 61 years of marriage, guiding them through every joy and challenge.
In 1986, Jeanette and Leo left St. Paul to pursue their dream of building a home along the Mississippi River in the Brainerd area. Their journey continued in Nisswa, where they built another home on Garden Lake and expanded their space into a hobby farm, adding draft horses to keep them busy. As their love for horses grew, so did their need for more land, leading them to St. Mathias, where they built yet another home. There, their property became the heart of family gatherings, holidays, and cherished memories. Their most recent move to Baxter was a decision made for simplicity—to be closer to family and embrace a more carefree life together. Her love for the outdoors was matched only by her love for animals. She was an avid gardener and cherished her prized rose garden. She had a special place in her heart for dogs and often couldn’t resist bringing home a new furry companion—whether Leo approved or not. Her compassion extended to her family where she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of her happiest times were gathered around bonfires or cheering at sporting events, surrounded by the people she loved.
Jeanette is survived by her loving husband, Leo; her daughter, Kim (Barry) Stout; and her grandchildren, Rachel (Adam) Bybee and Eric (Clarissa) Stout; son, David Kasel, and his four children—Amber, Ashley, Aron, and Andrew. Her legacy continues through her three great-grandsons, Mavrick, Camden, and Jaxson Bybee, with a future great-grandchild (Eric & Clair) expected in October 2025 (which Jeanette was certain will be a girl!). She is also survived by her brother, Rick (Pat) Arons, and her devoted, and very high-spirited, dog, Toby. Jeanette was preceded in death by her mother, Elda; siblings, Tom Gutzman and Gary Gutzman; and her grandmother, Barbara Koran.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Jeanette’s dedicated team of infusion nurses who provided exceptional care throughout her battle with leukemia over the past year. A special thank you also goes to her hospice care team for their compassion and support in her final days. We are forever grateful for your kindness and the care you so selflessly provided.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
