Jeanette Viola Engen Barkhoff was born on September 20, 1914, in Earlville, Iowa, to Howard and Frances (Billmeyer) Westlake. She was the first of five children. Jeanette moved to Minneapolis with her family at age sixteen. She met and married Oscar Norman Engen on July 2, 1936. Four boys were born to this union. Jeanette's husband passed away on Feb. 7, 1954. She later met and married Louis Barkhoff on July 29, 1961. They resided in Brooklyn Center until Louis' death on Jan. 12, 2009. At this time Jeanette moved to Americare Lodge Assisted Living in Remer where she lived until her death on Sept. 22, 2015, at 101 years of age.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Father Bruce; brother, Rich; sisters, Harriet and Fern.
She is survived by her sons: Richard (Patty), Howard (Vel), Dean (Deb); grandchildren: Robin, Mike, Greg, Stephanie, Deana, Jaden and Micheal H.; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Fran; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 26, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Remer. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Remer. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
