Jean Ardith (McAllister) Thomas of Longville, MN, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Thomas, and her parents, Katie Wilmot (Bogart) and Joe McAllister.
She is survived by her brothers, sister, and in-laws, Dan McAllister (Corrine), Micky Mechelke (Bob), Walt McAllister (Jeanette), Pete McAllister (Jenny), Verna Spalj, and Don Thomas; her children, Peggy Thomas, Dan Thomas, Toni Hajek, and Ben Thomas (Jackie) and grandchildren Natalie, Deirdre, Meg, Annie, Keith, Beau, Daniel, Robin and ten great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jean, born in Backus, MN, in 1927, graduated from the University of Minnesota to become a teacher and school Librarian. Her career took her to International Falls, MN, in 1957 and St. Paul, MN, in 1970 until 1985 when Jean and Lee moved to Longville, MN, to enjoy retirement. She taught with great compassion and exuberance and loved her students. Jean was an avid sailor, cross-country skier, hiker, traveler, volunteer and reader. Throughout her life she was involved in community activities such as theatre, political campaigns, support groups, and an advocate for world peace. Jean was a true humanitarian. Her love of family made her an exceptional wife, mother and grandmother. Her memory will be cherished and she lives on in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM on Saturday, October 24, at Salem Lutheran Church, Longville.
