Jean Elinor Halland gained her wings after a reoccurring battle with cancer on Sunday, February 4th surrounded by family and close friends as she joined her parents in Heaven. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 9th at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa, MN. The visitation will begin at 10am, followed by the service at 11:30am with a luncheon to follow.
Jean was born on July 18th, 1943 to Harold and Martha (Swenson) Anderson of Ottumwa, IA. She was a graduate of Drake University with a degree in Education. Her degree served her well throughout her personal and professional career as she was able to teach in schools in Minnesota as well as South Carolina. When Dan and Jean returned to Minnesota, Jean became a teacher in the Sauk Rapids School district until she retired in 2003. In retirement, her teaching never ended as she was focused on passing on life lessons and skills to her beloved children and her dearest friends.
Jean will be remembered for her deep love of family, faith, friends, and her many organizations that she had such a passion for. Her positive attitude and enthusiasm no matter the situation, combined with her love of teaching will keep her spirit alive within all of us who were so lucky to have her in our lives and to have learned many great lessons from her.
Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Martha; and father, Harold Anderson. Jean is survived by her husband, Dan Halland; son, Erik and daughter in-law, Amanda Halland; daughter, Kristina and son in-law, Andy Kampa; her three grandsons, Finn, Leif, and Soren Kampa; sister, Joan; brother in-law, Roger Schulz; and her nephews, Tory and Kevin Schulz.
In lieu of flowers please make memorials to the Lutheran Church of the Cross Foundation.
