Janis Allen

September 28, 1946 — October 11, 2021

Janis Allen passed away on October 11, 2021, surrounded by her family after a noble fight with cancer. Janis was born to LeRoy and Vivian Satherlie on September 28, 1946, in the City of Manhattan Beach. She attended elementary school in Fifty Lakes from 1952 to 1957 when the school closed, she then graduated from Pine River High School in 1964.

From a young age Janis was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church Swanburg. At the age of sixteen she began working with the kids in Vacation Bible School where she directed the music and made sure the kids knew every word. The next year, at the age of seventeen she became the church organist and continued until her health failed in 2018. In 1970 she became Parish Secretary for the two churches of Faith Lutheran and Crosslake Lutheran. She held that position until well after the two churches split and remained as Faith’s Secretary until her passing. She was also very active in the Swanburg Church Women.

In 1999 Janis took the position of Secretary/Treasurer for the City of Manhattan Beach. Then in 2004 she became a member of the City Council, which she continued until her passing. In 2000 Janis became a realtor and joined her husband, Paul in the realty office in Emily. They grew their business then decided to start their own company, which they operated until 2019 when they retired.

In her spare time, Janis could always be found making crafts, sewing, playing music, singing, or riding horses. Her real love was her family - her grandchildren and great grandchildren - they were the apple of her eye.

Janis is survived by her husband, Paul Allen; daughter, Shari (Larry) Curell; son, Scott Rubey; granddaughters, Nichole (Matt) Ackerman, Emily Weber; great-grandchildren, Gauge, Natalee, and Vivian; along with a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Satherlie.

Services will be 11 AM on Saturday, October 23, at Faith Lutheran Church, Swanburg. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM on Friday at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Swanburg Cemetery.
