Janet Marie Kern, 81, of Fort Myers, FL, passed away on July 14, 2024. Born on September 12, 1942, in Troy, New York, Janet moved to Minnesota, where she married Eugene Kern in 1966 and had five children.
Janet loved cooking and gardening, with some of her best memories coming from her time on the farm or listening to Elvis Presley. Despite sharing her recipes for pot roast and banana bread, no one could replicate the masterpieces she created. She had an uncanny talent for making plants thrive, possessing a magical touch in both cooking and gardening.
Janet's loyalty, generosity, and strength were truly admirable. She was a friend to everyone and always willing to lend a helping hand. Janet never met a stranger.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Thomas; daughter Genie and son-in-law Steve Stelter; son Bob; daughter Cindy and son-in-law Kevin Bradford; her sister Gerry Scheilding; and her grandchildren Erin Richards, Kayla Griffith, Ashley Downs, Mariah Wilson, Mike Shanks, Elizabeth Shanks, Janiann Guzman, Jeffrey Shanks, Ethan Bradford, Sullivan Bradford, Manny Bradford, Scott Kern, and Josiah Bradford. She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren and many other loving friends and family members.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband Gene Kern; her son Scott Kern; her parents William Moon and Marion McDonald; and her brother Timothy Moon.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Mission Town Hall, 29474 Co Rd 3, Merrifield, MN 56465. Services have been entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
