Jane Gordon

Jane Charlotte (Wood) Gordon, age 101, was born on September 22, 1921, in Champaign, Illinois to Esther June (Richtman) and George Vernon Wood. She passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society Woodland in Brainerd, MN. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth and Patricia, and one brother, Philip.

Jane grew up in rural Rantoul, IL during the Great Depression. Her fond memories of those years were reading up in a favorite tree on the farm and helping her dad on the farm. She played French horn in high school and was in All-State Band. In 1941 she married George A. “Andy” Gordon, an Air Force/Army soldier. Andy was shipped over to Europe during WWII for about 1 year and Jane lived with her parents. Andy passed away on October 7, 1991.

Jane was a great seamstress, pianist and nurse. Her last job before retirement was Nursing Home Administrator at Acre View Nursing Home in Villa Park, IL. Her retirement years were spent with Andy on Bass Lake, Merrifield, MN. After Andy’s passing, she moved to Pequot Lakes, MN, to be near two of her children. She survived Covid-19 at 98 years old and continued to share many laughs with us in her later years. Thank you to Good Samaritan Society, Bethany and Good Samaritan Society, Woodland in Brainerd for her great care, including those great Covid nurses in July 2020. Her children had many opportunities to enjoy her after her illness – by phone, facetime and through the window in her room.

Jane is survived by her children: Patricia (Lyle), Elizabeth, Gregory (Shirley), Charles (Lesley); 11 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. Her family loved her very much and will miss her.

Private family services will be determined at a later date.
