Jane Anne (Kiefner) DuBois, 83, long-time resident of Crosslake (formerly residing in St. Louis Park), died peacefully on June 15, 2014 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter. Two years ago Jane sustained a traumatic brain injury from a fall.
Jane was born on a sunny day, September 18, 1930, in Minneapolis, to happy parents, Raymond and Loretta Kiefner. Jane had one brother, Raymond, who preceded her in death. Jane was married to Cyrus Harvey DuBois on April 19, 1952 and they were married for 51 years and blessed with six children.
Jane drove school bus for both St. Louis Park School Bus Company and Pine River School District. As a bus driver, Jane would stop at the Crosslake Dairy Queen on the last day of school and treat all the kids on her bus to dilly bars.
Jane's husband, Cy, was a wood carver and sign maker. Together they operated DuBois Woodcarving Shoppe and Gallery in Crosslake since 1983, with Jane retiring in 2011 only after her fall. Cy was given to saying to Jane, "you may be the boss, but I am the president". They had a colorful relationship that included go carts, homemade skis, camping, fishing, ice boating, soapbox derby, Girl and Boy Scout Leaders, and lots of time enjoying Crosslake.
She loved music, the Mamas and Papas in the 70s, and Susan Boyce most recently. She played piano and sang in the choir at Holy Family Church in St. Louis Park, and Immaculate Heart in Crosslake. A favorite memory is hearing mom singing solo from the choir loft, Ave Maria.
Jane was a Foster Grandparent, volunteering at the Crosslake Community School helping emergent readers.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cy; many, many dogs (Mimi, Maggie, Katie, Bruno, Rachel, and Rambo - who lived up to his name); six children, Michael Raymond DuBois (Dee Miller), Sue Anne DuBois Bettermann (Dr. Larry D.), Patti Kay DuBois, Peter Brian DuBois (Denise), Mary DuBois Adamek (John), and Thomas Joseph DuBois; grandchildren, Brook DuBois, Andrew DuBois, Sean DuBois, Tyler DuBois, Erin DuBois, Tina (Cothren) Macenfish, Sarah Cothren, and Sean Cothren; and great-grandchildren, Europe DuBois Guy, Raven DuBois Guy, Leilani Macenfish, and Marina Macenfish.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crosslake with Father Ryan Moravitz officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to Mass. Jane's family will have a private burial at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake.
Jane is best known for her moniker: T.O.B (Tough Old Broad) and for not suffering fools lightly. Her sense of humor was passed down to all her children and was going strong up to the very end. She will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (PO Box 155, Crosslake, MN 56442) or Minnesota Fall Prevention, www.mnfallsprevention.com
