James Mctague

October 13, 1937 — August 7, 2020

James Gardner McTague, age 82, died of natural causes on August 7, 2020, at his home in Breezy Point, MN.

Jim (Mac) loved the game, all games. If it was a Minnesota team, he was all in. As a young man, Jim was chosen MVP of his basketball team in the US Army where he played in Germany. He was also proud to attend Moorhead State on a basketball scholarship. He filled his later days playing softball for Park Drug, Duffs, Golden Leaf, and Duck Soup. His daughter, Amy, was his greatest cheerleader and fan.

Bowling was a passion; he achieved the perfect game, not once, but twice. Jim bonded with his friends and family on the golf course and his three holes-in-one were the envy of many.

Jim loved his sports as we loved his humor and warm personality. His quick, dry wit kept us all laughing until the end.

Jim was born in 1937 on October 13 in Minneapolis, MN and left the game of life suddenly on August 7.

Jim’s memory will be kept alive by his wife, Kathy; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Brett Kightlinger; granddaughters, Isabelle James and Josie; and faithful four-legged walking companion, Charlie.  He will also be missed by sisters, Jean Appleton and Pattie Johnson; a large extended family; and many adoring fans.

All of us that love Jim hope he sinks all his birdie putts, knocks down all 10 pins, and that his DVR never misses another extra inning.

Please join us September 26 from 2:00 to 5:00pm (tribute at 3:00) at the McTague home on the fifth hole (8616 Wren Drive) of the Breezy Point golf course, where we will raise a glass and a cigar for our MVP, Jim McTague.
