James Ross Magness, of Crookston, MN, died May 1, 2011 at his home.

He will be deeply missed by his children Jamie Magness, Brainerd, Mn. Julia (Magness) Toso, Crookston, Mn. William Magness, Hibbing, Mn. Brooke McPherson, Pillager, Mn., 7 precious grandchildren: Brianna, Shelby, Kyleigh, Kohl, Chloe, Ethan and Nyah. Brothers Joseph, Brainerd, Mn., Carson , Aitkin, Mn., sisters Sara (Magness) Imgrund, Ft. Ripley, Mn., Janiva Magness, Los Angeles, CA., nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and friends.

He is preceded in his death by his son Artese P. Magness, infant grandson Joseph, parents Billy C. and Wilhelmina M. Magness and many extended family members.
James was born in Mt Clemens, Michigan May 3, 1948. He was captain of the football team in White Bear Lake during high school. He moved to S.D where he drove fuel truck for Northern Farmers Elevator in South Dakota for several years before settling again in Minnesota. Later he attended Rainy River Comm. College and received his Bachelor in Science. He worked as a nurse at Moose Lake Hospital. He came back to the Brainerd area again where he logged the rest of his time here. He then moved to Crookston.He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved being outdoors. His hero's were old west cowboys and his father. Louis L'Amour books,history and public radio were things he enjoyed. Being a Dad and grandpa was what he considered to be his greatest gifts in life. Jim will be greatly missed. PEACE.

Memorial services are being held at Brenny Funeral Chapel, Baxter, Mn., May 20th, 20011 at 3:00 pm. with Deacon Mike Koeckhler officiating.
