James Finch, 71, of Baxter, died at his home Friday, April 27, 2007. A Visitation will be on Monday, April 30, from 5-9pm at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday morning, May 2, at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Garretson, SD.
James "Jim" Finch was born on July 10, 1935 to Dan and Dorothy (Norby) Finch at Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up near Sioux Falls, and graduated from school in Brandon, SD. He was united in marriage to Janet Froseth on September 23, 1955 in Garretson, SD. He was resident in the Baxter area since 1975. He owned and operated the "Old Baxter Store" until 1988. He has been a member of the Baxter Lions, Baxter Bass Club, and a proud Elk member for over 40 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He and Jan enjoyed traveling and spent the last 20 winters in their RV in the warm states: Florida, Texas, Arizona and Arkansas.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jan; children, Jenifer (Tom) Finch, Hammond, LA, Joellen (Tim) Steffen, Lakeville, MN, James (LaNita) Finch, Granby, CO; 4 brothers, Dan (Marlies) Finch, Jr., Brandon, SD, Bob (Jan) Finch, Sioux Falls, SD, Fred (Sharon) Finch, Sioux Falls, SD, Dean (Vickie) Finch, Brandon, SD; 3 sisters Kathy (Harry) Sorlie, Larchwood, IA, Jeanne (Daryl) Verley, Sioux Falls, SD, Mary (Roger) VanRoekel, Beaver Creek, MN; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
