James A. Eckert, age 84, of Backus, MN, formerly Bloomington, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014. He was born in Marcell, MN, to James and Margaret Eckert on July 2, 1929. Jim served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was wounded in combat, receiving the Purple Heart. He worked as a mail carrier for the USPS for 30 years. He spent the last 22 years at their lake home in the Backus area where he enjoyed snowmobiling with his friends.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen; sons: Gregg (Judy), Ron, Joe, Mark; daughters: Nancy Stroth, Sue (Kevin) Timm; sisters: Ione Miller, Fern (Bob) Drayna; brother-in-law, Rudy Grabmeier; sisters-in-law: Ena Eckert, Marilyn Eckert; grandsons: Andrew and Sean Timm, Adam Stroth; granddaughters: Rebecca (Pete) Lamkin, Celia (Jeremy) Anderson, Ginny Eckert; and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be 11 AM on Monday, April 7, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2 PM on Monday at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery, Little Falls.
