James Charles Besenfelder

James Charles Besenfelder, 73, of Baxter, MN., passed away on Feb. 4, 2025. Jim was the son of Bonnie and Jim Besenfelder.
He grew up in DeKalb, IL., and attended St. Mary School, graduated from DeKalb High School in 1969, then attended DePauw University, Boston University, and Northern Illinois University.
Jim settled in the Brainerd Lakes area, working for In-Fisherman magazine. He could be found on the golf course or on a lake fishing for Northern and Crappies. He loved spending time with his kids, Amanda and Brett. He always had a golden retriever by his side.
Jim enjoyed listening to music, especially the Grateful Dead, The Doors, and Steely Dan. He instilled the value of the great outdoors, football, especially the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and playing fetch with his dog Vader.
Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Saligumba Besenfelder (San Francisco); his son, Brett Besenfelder (Baxter, MN.); a sister, Julie (Mike) Frankel (DeKalb Il.); niece, Melissa (Joe) Yu; and nephew, Tyler (Winnie) Frankel.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
