James Axtell

James Edward Axtell, 78, of Nisswa, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Essentia Health - St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. A Celebration of James' Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 29, 2016 at St. Christopher's Catholic Church. Family and friends are welcome to gather Sunday evening from 4-7 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and also one hour prior to Mass on Monday. Private interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN.

James was born February 28, 1938, in St. Paul, MN, the son of Harvey and Rosemary (Schwietz) Axtell. Jim served in the US Navy from 1958-1960. He married Janet Landgraf in Spooner, WI in 1992. He worked in sales most of his life, spending the last 10 years with Structures Wood Care. Jim liked to be adventurous and enjoyed living life. He traveled, golfed, and liked spending time boating and RVing. Jim loved his family and cherished his time with family, friends, and especially his grandchildren.

He will be missed and is survived by his wife, Janet Axtell (Landgraf); sons, Thomas (Linda) Axtell, of Rochester and Mike (Sally) Axtell; and grandchildren, Brianna and Holly. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas.
