Jack Strong Sr.

Jack Herbert Strong Sr, 81, of Brainerd, MN died at his home on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Services for Jack will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 1:00PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN with Chaplain Gary Brink officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel on Tuesday. Interment at Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.

Jack was born on January 25, 1935 in Brainerd, MN to Orvan and Zella (Thomas) Strong. He attended Brainerd High School and worked for Consumer Oil. In 1951 he moved to California. On June 19, 1965 he married Carolyn Finch at First Baptist Church in Brainerd, MN. Jack drove OTR Truck and was a member of Millwright Local #548, Minneapolis. They lived in Wasilla, Alaska from 1981-1987 where Jack worked on Telecom and also worked as a millwright. They returned to Brainerd, MN in 1987. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Gayle (Ken) Kerrigan of Leland, NC, Todd Strong Sr, of Brainerd, MN, Kathy (Joe Hirtzel) Barnhardt of Brainerd, MN, Beth (Kevin) Wagner of Snohomish, WA, Missy (Troy) Nash of Brainerd, MN, and Jack Jr. (Christine) Strong of Buffalo, MN; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; brother, Tom (Carla Christopherson) Strong of Brainerd, MN;and brother-in-law, Bob Sikes of Brainerd, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orvan and Zella Strong; sister, Jan Sikes; and granddaughter, Carolyn Mutchler. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
