Services for Jack will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 13, 2011 at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter with visitation one hour prior at the church. Interment will be at 2:00 PM at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Jack was born in Minneapolis and later moved to Mille Lacs Lake. He attended Cove School and graduated from Onamia High School in 1953, but always talked about how the girls were cuter in Isle! After graduation he joined the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. "Once a marine, always a marine" was one of his favorite phrases.
As an adult, Jack loved to work and play in the outdoors. He initially worked for Control Data in Minneapolis as a draftsman, but his love of the outdoors led him to move his family to Grand Rapids, "God's Country", in 1975. There, he and his son Doug built the family home on 30 acres in the woods near Sugar Lake. During Jack's time in Grand Rapids, he worked as a heavy equipment operator and, in his spare time, was always fixing something. Camping trips were a big part of life for Jack and his family and he especially loved the north shore area of Lake Superior. He had a fun-loving and adventurous spirit as was evidenced by the many hours he spent flying "the ultralight" - a powered hang-glider type airplane.
Some other interesting places Jack resided include Maui, HI; Lake City, MN; and Bradenton, FL.
More than anything, Jack's priority was his relationship with the Lord and his commitment to raising his children. He was also very generous with his time and resources. Jack was greatly loved and will be missed by his children, Douglas (Jennifer) Hennum, Sherri (David) Swagger, Susan (Brian) Lehman, and Tim (Gretchen) Hennum; brother, James (Dolores) Hennum; and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Signe Hennum.
