Iris Mae Lorentz Floistad was born in West Allis, Wisconsin on August 1, 1931 to Edith and Rinehard Lorentz. Services will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, at 11am with a visitation starting one hour prior.
She was married to Eugene Floistad on December 17, 1955 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They had four children, David, Linda, Laura and John.
Iris' employment history includes working for the Bell Telephone and Chain Belt Companies. However, she dreamed of becoming a math teacher. This dream was realized as she taught students at the High School in Staples, Minnesota, North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota, and at the Adult Learning Center in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. She continued to take math courses into her fifties, loving every math challenge.
Her interests included gardening, quilting, church choir, circle bible study, watching baseball and football with her husband Gene, listening to classical music, especially opera, and spending time with her family and friends.
Once she made up her mind to do something, Iris was unstoppable, including her once a year water skiing trip around Lake Shamineau. She also loved to gently tease, and stated that she knew someone loved her if they teased her, too.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Eugene Floistad, son, David Floistad, siblings Darlyn Magis and Dr. Robert Lorentz, and parents Edith Weed and RInehard Lorentz.
Memorials can be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, MN or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
