Irene "Ike" Smedley, age 92, of Pine River, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center in Pine River. She was born May 24, 1916 in Sterling, IL, to Richard and Alberta Mangan.
Irene moved from Illinois to the Brainerd area and owned E-Z Does It Resort. She later worked at JC Penney in Brainerd.
Irene was very athletic and was a great bowler and golfer. She was active in the Geritol Frolics, the Bunco Club and enjoyed sewing and cooking.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Smedley (Edith) of Staples; granddaughters, Nicole Hestbeck (Eric) of Fargo, Danielle Mullen (Erik) of Crookston, NE; great grandson, Jeremy; sister, Gladys Burns of Bettendorf, IA; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orr, in 1993; her parents, stepmother, Gwen, brothers: Buddy, Ray and Ralph; and sister, Helen Overton.
Services will be 11 AM on Saturday, September 13 at Riverview Church, Pine River, with Pastor Mark Erickson officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
