Irene Schlegel

Irene Marie Schlegel, 78, of Brainerd died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 1:00PM at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd, MN with Father Brandon Moravitz officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, from 5:00-7:00PM.

Irene was born on August 24, 1935 in Hillman, MN to Theodore and Mathilda (Kapsner) Gross. She married Wally Schlegel on May 24, 1954 at Holy Family Church in Bulldog Lake, MN. They lived in the cities and northern Minnesota and also farmed in Pine Center, MN. Irene and Wally moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area in 1978 where she had been a resident until the time of her death. Irene enjoyed gardening, quilting, and sewing. She also liked to bake. Irene's greatest love was spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Irene is survived by her husband, Wally; children, Bert (Celina) Schlegel of Brainerd, MN, David (Nancy) Schlegel of Pillager, MN, Mike (Sabrina) Schlegel of Corcoran, MN, Ned (Susan) Schlegel of Des Moines, IA, Renee (Mike) LaDouceur of Brainerd, MN, Roxi (Paul) Schmitz of St. Cloud, MN, and Russell (Amber) Schlegel of Anoka, MN; three sisters, Martha (Al) Holley of Osteen, FL, Eva (Joe) Tembreull of St. Paul, MN, and Dolores (Bill) Rauch of Cottage Grove, MN; two brothers, George Gross of Sauk Rapids, MN and Ben (Virginia) Gross of Hillman, MN; twenty-four grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Mathilda; son, Jeffrey; sisters, Cecelia, Agnes, Hilda, and Marie.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
