Irene Blanche Sahli

June 15, 1924 – August 24, 2017

Today we lost a true pioneering spirit – Irene Blanche Sahli passed away at 93 years old. Irene was born in Verndale, MN. As a young woman, she ventured to the Twin Cities to enter the workforce with Sears Roebuck & Co. She met her lifetime love and husband of 64 years there and followed him out West to pursue work. Paul was hired on as a ranch hand in Montana and Irene went to work as the head cook for all the hired men. She was stoic, and witty, and kept those men in line. She continued to pursue her lifelong passion of cooking and baking, spending many hours in the kitchen preparing meals for family and friends. She was a loving and caring wife and mom of two wonderful sons. She also cared for her beloved two grandchildren in their infancy. Irene will be remembered for her quiet but solid support, for “always being there” in times of need and for her hugs.

Irene is preceded in death by husband Paul Sahli. She is survived by her two sons Bruce Sahli (Mary) and Howard Sahli (Kim), two grandchildren Brandon Sahli (Jodi) and Brooke Sahli (John), and great grandchild Georgia Rose Sahli. Visitation will be held at Brenny Funeral Chapel, 13782 County Road 36, Crosslake, MN at 10:30am on September 2, 2017. A funeral service will follow at 11:00. Lunch will be served at Maucieri’s Restaurant in Crosslake immediately after the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
