Irene Kuschel, age 84, of Crosby, MN died December 17, 2002 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center. Services will be Friday, December 20, 2002, 11 AM at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Brainerd, MN with Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Visitation was held on Thursday, December 19, 2002 from 6 ? 8 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Irene Elizabeth Kuschel was born on March 22, 1918 in Hughton, Saskatchewan, Canada to Claude and Constance (Litchy) Holmes. She moved to Holdingford, MN with her parents at an early age. On February 19, 1938 in Holdingford she was united in marriage to Raymond Kuschel. They moved to Mille Lacs Lake for a few years before moving to Pine Center. They lived in Pine Center for many years where they operated a bait store. Then she worked at the Onamia Hospital for 20 years. They then moved to the east-side of Mille Lacs living there for 12 years before moving to South Long Lake in about 1989. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, and a past member of the Wigwam Club. Irene enjoyed quilting, fishing, crocheting and traveling.
Irene is survived by her daughter Betty Petrin, of Bay City, WI; 2 sons, Kenneth (Shirley) Kuschel of Brainerd, David (Carol) Kuschel of Anoka, MN; 2 sisters Julia Wellington, of Brainerd, Caroline Anderson of Baxter; 2 brothers Raymond Holmes and Cyril Holmes both of Brainerd; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Her husband Raymond and both parents preceded her in death.
