Ira Allen

Ira W. "Shorty" Allen, age 87, of Staples, passed away late Tuesday night at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 14, at 11:00 AM, at the Motley Free Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be after the service at the Motley Public Cemetery with full Military Honors, provided by the Motley American Legion.

Ira was born June 20, 1922, to Emert and Hazel Jenkins Allen in Herman, Minnesota. He was a veteran of WWII. He returned from service to work in the iron mines in Minnesota and Greenland. He worked as a truck driver for Minnesota DOT until retirement. He was a life member of the Motley American Legion. He enjoyed raising beef cattle and saddle horses.

Ira was preceded in death by his parents, Emert and Hazel Allen, and his brother, Raymond.

Ira is survived by his sister, Mrs. Leroy (Betty) Tepley of Staples, and his brother, James (Debbie Wilson) Allen of Apache Junction, Arizona.
