Inez Gladys Betts, 96, of Staples, passed away at Lakewood Hospital Monday, December 31, 2012. Services will be at 11:00AM on Friday, January 4, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at Evergreen Hill in the spring.
She was born to Herman and Catherine (Lenius) Wessel, March 20, 1916 in Perham, MN. She grew up in Perham and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham, MN. She was baptized, March 24, 1916 and confirmed in her faith, May 18, 1930. Her confirmation verse is, 2 Cor. 5:15, "And that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again."
She graduated from Perham High School. On January 12, 1938, she married Bernard Jacob Betts. They were blessed with 4 children; Gary, Gene, John, and Bonnie. They lived in western Minnesota and in California during WW2. They then returned to Minnesota and after living in several small towns, they moved to Staples, MN in 1957.
She worked on radio programs at Detroit Lakes, Perham and Staples. The Radio Programs were reporting on local events and playing organ and piano musical selections. She rented rooms in her home to students of Staples Technical College for many years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Staples, MN. Where she was active in many church activities. She moved to the Staples Care Center on March 11, 2003, where she continued to play organ and piano music at some of the noon meals or other events.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Ginny) Betts, Chippewa Falls, WI., Gene (Cindy) Betts, Knife River, MN., John (Glenda) Betts, Clearwater, MN., Bonnie (Don) Perdue, Mobile, AL., 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Bernard, sisters Inza Wilzcek, Izona Lorenzen, and Irma Martinson, a daughter in-law Marlene, and a grandchild.
