Howard Germanson

Howard "Howie" Germanson died on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 8:00 am from prostate cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 2 at 11:00 am at Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison, MN, with Pastor Chris Hill officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 1 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Brenny Funeral Home in Baxter, MN, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be the following week at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis, MN.

Howie was born on August 3, 1934 to William & Pauline (Luschnot) Germanson in Barron, WI. He grew up in Hillsdale, WI. , attended Barron High School in Barron, WI & graduated with the class of 1952. He was an SP3 in the Army from 1954 to 1956. He attended St. Paul Vocational School and graduated in 1959 as a Tool Maker.

He was united in marriage to Roberta Ann "Bobbie" Long on September 23, 1972 in Roseville, MN. He worked at Northern Ordnance as a Machinist from 1959 to 1962, United Fab. & Elec. as a Toolmaker from 1962 to 1966 & Honeywell as a Tool Maker & Senior Production Engineer from 1966 to 1994. He had lived in the Garrison community (Camp Lake) since 1984, & full time since 1996. He was very active in his church, Light of the Cross, being involved in the Church Council, Stewardship Committee and the Men's Crew. He loved family, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, working in the woods, and was a voracious reader.

He is survived by Bobbie, his wife of 39 years; children, Michele Germanson, Edina, MN & Shari O'Flanagan, Golden Valley, MN; brother Harvey (Sandy) Germanson, Barron, WI; brother-in-law John Balog, Barron, WI; & special pet Sammie (Golden Retriever) & many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, half brother Arthur Spagenski & sister Dorothy Balog.
