Hilmer B. Hanson, of Walker, died Friday, October 23, 2009 at the North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.
He was born in Dover, MN , on May 12, 1924, to John and Lulu Hanson. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1941, and joined the Army on April 8, 1943 and served until January 9, 1946, being stationed in the Philippines. He met Doris Anderson when his parents moved to St. Paul, MN. They married on March 27, 1948.
His main occupations in his lifetime were 15 yrs. as an optical lens grinder, Journeyman-Foreman. Then he worked at Ah-Gwah-Ching for 25 yrs. as a Maintenance Engineer and retired in 1985.
He was a life-time member of the VFW Post 8508 in Akeley, MN, and a Life-time member of the American Legion Post 134 of Walker, MN, and also a life-time member of the Walker Masonic Lodge #302 of Walker, MN.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennie Birkeland, and her husband Mark, of Walker, and grandchildren Jessica of Nisswa, and Joshua of Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Doris and his sister, Mary Lou Fendrick.
Memorial Services will be at the Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, MN on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. Inurnment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Walker at a future date.
