Herbert Hecht, age 94 of Pequot Lakes, MN, passed away on October 27, 2014. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lenora, and his second wife, Maggie. Herb and Lenora had two sons, Harlin (Sue) of Paynesville, and Arvid of Pequot Lakes, along with 3 grandsons: Howard (Laura) of Groton, Massachusetts, Mark (Becky) of Paynesville and Dale (Jill) of Grove City; along with 7 great grandchildren. He also has several stepchildren and step-grandchildren from his marriage with Maggie.
Herb served as a director on several boards including the Pine River School Board, the Pillager Creamery Board, several church boards and the Maple Township Board. He drove school bus for 23 years for the Pine River School District. During the first half of his life he had a top dairy herd. Later he switched to a commercial cow-calf beef herd at which time he partnered on the farm with his son, Arvid. They are well known for producing high performance Charolais cross feeders for over 50 years. They were recognized as the 1996 Commercial Producer of the year by the MN/WI Charolais Association.
Services will be 11 AM on Saturday, November 1, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes. Visitation will be at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Friday from 5 to 7 PM and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Stoney Brook Cemetery, rural Pequot Lakes.
