Henry Jacobson

July 14, 1922 — August 15, 2010

Henry "Jake" Jacobson, 88, of Brainerd, passed away early Sunday, August 15 at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Services for Jake will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, August 21 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village Chapel in the 300 building. Friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. Private Interment will be held at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley, MN.

Jake was born and raised on July 14, 1922 in Clarkfield, MN to Henry and Matilda Jacobson. After attending school Jake served in the Army during WWII as a Staff Sergeant and was the recipient of a bronze star. He married Donna Nelson in Avoca, MN on June 15, 1947. Jack and Donna lived in various locations and came to the Brainerd Lakes Area in the 1950's. Jake started selling produce, bedding plants and ice cream calling his business "Jakes Market". He later established the first warehouse grocery in the area Jake's Price Fighter Foods. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Brainerd VFW, and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Jake was also proud of his 52 year membership with Alcoholics Anonymous and the support he gave to many other AA members over the years. He was an avid outdoors man enjoying hunting and fishing. Donna and Jake enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Alamo, TX. His family will remember him for his love of a challenge and sense of adventure.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Matilda. Jake will be lovingly missed by is wife; Donna, children; Lynn (Steve) McCulloch of Denver, CO, Yvette (Ron) Zgak of Downers Grove, IL, Dick (Karen) Jacobson of Shakopee, MN, Laura (Darren) Cronquist of Brainerd, MN, and Cynthia (Russ) Sheehan of Breezy Point, MN; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
