Helene Kelcher, 70, of Pillager, died Monday, July 4, 2005 following a motor vehicle accident near Deerwood. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9, at 1 pm, at Merrifield Community Church of the Nazarene, with Reverend Larry Harshman officiating. Friends may visit at the church from 11am until service time. Burial will be private.
Helene was born July 12, 1934 near Ft. Totten, North Dakota, to James and Elsie (Durm) Murrer. As a young child she moved with her family to Swanburg. She was married to Don Hardy in Brainerd on October 5, 1950. The couple later divorced. They traveled with his highway construction job until 1960, when they moved to Aitkin, where they raised their family. She worked as a cook for ISD 1 in Aitkin for more than 10 years. She was united in marriage to Don Kelcher on September 15, 1975, and moved to Merrifield. She worked in the kitchen at ISD 181 in Brainerd. The couple moved to Pillager in September of 2004. Don later passed away on March 1, 2005. Helene was an active member of the Community Church of the Nazarene in Merrifield. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally, and enjoyed the kids at school, as well. She was a grandma who hugged often, listened carefully to her grandchildren, and actively joined in their play. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and shopping.
Helene is sadly missed by her children, Cathie (Greg) Pearson, Aitkin, Kim Hardy, Brainerd, Randy (Roxanne) Hardy, Nisswa, and Cindy Meierhofer, Brainerd; grandchildren Tanya (Kevin) Pietz, Chad Hardy, Melissa Pearson, Trent Pearson, Tyler Hardy, Kelsie Engholm, Andrew Meierhofer, Samuel Hardy, and Summer Hardy; great-grandson Aric Pietz; siblings Calvin ?Grant? (Judy) Murrer, Remer, Charles ?Bud? (Chris) Murrer, Hibbing, and Lila (Dean) Clark, San Antonio, TX; and 13 nieces and nephews. Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
