Helen K. Roohr, age 98, of Brainerd, died Monday, July 23, 2012, at Bethany Good Samaritan Home in Brainerd. A short memorial service will be held in the Bethany Chapel (north end) at 1:00 PM, Sat., July 28, 2012. Refreshments and cake will be served immediately following in the Bethany Senior Living Apartments new dining room (south end). There will be private burial of her ashes following. Interment Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Good Samaritan Society-Bethany Senior Living Apartments.
Helen K. Roohr was born Oct. 13, 1913, in Webster, ND to William and Catherine (McLeod) McKay. Helen graduated from Bemidji High School. While in Brainerd, she worked for Mr. Baehr in the Baehr Building (Brainerd Theater), selling tickets at the theater, collecting rents and doing the accounting. In 1945 she was united in marriage to Chester "Chet" Roohr at the Congregational Church in Brainerd. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, the American Legion, the Elks, and the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf, and doing needlepoint. She and Chet enjoyed many winters in Florida and California.
Helen is survived by a son, Dan Roohr in Colorado; a daughter, Susan and husband Carl Faust, of Brainerd; and two grandchildren, Amy K. (Faust) Fraser, Chanhassen, MN, and Shelly B. Faust, Coeur d'Alene, ID. Her parents and five sisters preceded her in death.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
