Helen M. Liden, age 94, of Staples, passed away Friday, October 24, 2008 at Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa. A funeral service is planed for Tuesday, October 28 at 1:00PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples with Pastor Mike Picconatto officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Onamia. Helen Margaret Boquist was born January 27, 1914 in Los Angeles, California to Peter John and Nanna (Hanson) Boquist. In May of 1914 the family moved to Darling Township in Morrison County. In the fall of 1919 the moved to Warwick, North Dakota and in 1929 the relocated to a farm near Onamia. She graduated from Onamia High School in 1922. On April 24, 1935, she married Paul W. Liden. Together they farmed near Onamia until 1956 when they moved to St. Paul. Helen then became a deputy sheriff at the Ramsey County Jail. A few years after retiring they moved to Staples in 1974. Helen enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, berry picking, camping, crafts, and making doll house furniture. Helen is survived by her daughter, Doris (Don) Amundson of Staples; grandson, Dan Amundson of Motley; granddaughters, Diane (Darin) Daby of Sioux Falls, SD and Deb (Rich) Hamann of Bloomington; three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one sister. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
