Helen Hanley, age 82 of Philbrook, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at the Greater Staples Care Center. Services will be on Saturday, May 26, at 2:00 p.m at the Staples Church of Christ. Visitation will be Friday evening, May 25, 6-8 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, and at Staples Church of Christ, one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at the Batavia Cemetery, Turtle Creek Twp. Memorials are suggested to the Staples Church of Christ Ladies Quilting Group of which she was a member. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Home, Staples, MN.
Helen Dorothy Hanley was born July 19, 1918 in Fergus Falls, MN to Chester and Sarah (Carry) Hanley. She attended grade school in Philbrook and graduated from Staples High School. She received her Elementary Education degree from St. Cloud Teachers College. She taught in New York Mills for 30 years before her retirement. She also faithfully cared for her elderly mother until her death in 1975. Helen was a devout member of Church of Christ in Staples all of her life, holding church offices, participating in church activities and teaching Sunday School. She will always be remembered for her gentle, sweet spirit and her love for children.
Helen is survived by: Sister-in-law, Naiomi Hanley of Motley, MN; niece, Toni Molinario and family of Fort Benton, Montana; nephew, Allen Hanley of Stillwater, MN and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, W. Lloyd Hanley.
