Helen Butterfield

Helen Marie Butterfield, 94, of Brainerd, passed away on March 17, 2024. Services will be held at 5:00pm on Thursday March 28, 2024, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Brainerd, MN with a visitation one hour prior to services. 

Helen was born April 20, 1929, to Cornelious and Rachel (Clemons) Sullivan in Fowler Colorado. In 1960 she joined the AirForce. She went to nursing school at Union College in Lincoln, NE and served as a nurse for many years thereafter in rural community hospitals. Helen married Russell Butterfield and together they raised their family of five girls on a farm near Pine Center, MN.

Helen enjoyed sewing, camping, reading her bible, and gardening. Above all else, she loved serving the Lord. She was particularly tender hearted for the poor and taught her girls to care for others.

Helen is survived by her children, Jerri Alhomood, Debbie Wilbur, Donna Fry, Wanda Butterfield, Brenda Butterfield; sister, Mary Lou Sullivan; twenty-one grandchildren; and many great- great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Russell; infant child, Wendy Butterfield, parents; siblings Thelma Brown, Laura Whitney, Edward Sullivan, Roy Sullivan, and Alice Kaufman.

A special thank you to the staff at Good Samaritan-Woodland for their care and compassion they showed to Helen and her family. We would also like to thank all of Helen’s church family for their prayers during this time.
