Hazel Holmes

Hazel Lorayne Holmes, 82, of Roosevelt Township, died at her home Sunday, April 5, 2009. Services for Hazel will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services.
Hazel was born November 17, 1926 in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Herman and Beatrice (Brooks) Schmaltz. At an early age, she moved with her family to Hillman. She was united in marriage to Cyril Holmes on November 8, 1944. The couple made their home in the Pine Center area until the time of her death.

Hazel is a member of the Brainerd VFW Post 1647 Auxiliary. She liked to knit, sew and crochet. She also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, baking, and gardening. She also liked to watch birds and scrapbook.

Hazel will be missed by her husband, Cyril; her children, Sharon (Vernon) Horst, of Zimmerman, MN, Linda Brooks, of Breezy Point, Donna (Gordon) Fitch, of Brainerd, Bonita (Randy) Austin, of Bemidji, Norman (Karla) Holmes, of Loretto, MN, and Gary (Cheryl) Holmes, of Ogilvie; her sibilings, Russell Schmaltz, of Blaine, Rodney Schmaltz, of Garrison, Betty McGraw, of Burnsville, and Lola Hepburn, of Pine City; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Roy and Dale; and two brothers, Robert and Rudolph.
