Harvey Andy Messner, 84, of Baxter, died Friday, March 21, 2014 at Essentia Health – St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 24, 2014 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with Dr. Daniel Messner officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services and stay following for a luncheon at the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room. Interment will be at Baxter City Cemetery.
Harvey was born March 11, 1930, in Winthrop, MN, the son of Levi and Mae (Miller) Messner. On November 24, 1951, he married Verda Hagg in Winthrop. The couple moved to the Twin Cities area in 1960 and Harvey worked at Federal Cartridge in Anoka for 25 years. Following retirement, they moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area in 1994. Harvey had an excellent work ethic and was mechanically inclined. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He liked to golf and travel. Harvey loved to play pranks and especially enjoyed spending time and sharing laughs with his family – children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Verda; children, Debra (Clifford) Borden, of Merrifield, Dr. Daniel (Lois) Messner, of Lima, OH, and Darren (Kristy) Messner, of Belle Fourche, SD; siblings, Hazel Schmidt, Mike Messner, Don Messner, Marvin Messner, Melvin Messner, Shirley Demm, Idabell Witt, and Jerry Messner, 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold and Raymond.
