Harvey Larson

Harvey James Larson, age 79, of Backus, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Birchview Gardens in Hackensack. He was born in Irving Township in Kandiyohi County to Olga and Louis Larson on March 31, 1933.

Harvey was united in marriage to Lois Lucille Gratz on August 14, 1953. To this union, two sons, Kevin James and Kelvin Lee, were born. Harvey owned and operated Atwater Auto Wrecking in Atwater for many years and was a mechanic for Johnson Brothers Construction for over 25 years. In the earlier years of their marriage, Harvey and Lois lived in Detroit, Michigan, while Harvey served in the army. He was discharged in 1955. In the later years of their marriage, Harvey and Lois moved up north where they owned and operated Larson's Bay Resort on Variety Lake in Hackensack. They retired and moved to Rainy Lake near Backus. Harvey enjoyed spending time in his shop making wooden toys and tinkering with his steam engines, and also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Backus and the Hackensack American Legion.

Harvey is survived by his sons: Kevin Larson (Sue) and Kelvin Larson (Lorna); sisters: Norma Mathison (Harold), Patti Sorenson (Mike); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lois; his parents; and 3 sisters.

Services will be 11 AM on Monday, January 28, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Backus, with Pastor Ronald Carnicom officiating. Visitation will be at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM, and also one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hackensack.
