Harris Gunvalson

Harris G. Gunvalson, age 92, of Brainerd, passed away Thursday afternoon. Graveside services will be Monday, October 2, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Cyrus South Cemetery of Cyrus with Pastor Ivy Borgstrom officiating; reception to follow at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus.
Harris Gunvalson was born April 30, 1914 in Cyrus, MN to Sverre and Anna Gunvalson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. On August 29, 1939 he married Irene Whitmer from Hancock. Born of that union was a son, Eldean, in 1941, and a daughter, Sandra, in 1951. Harris primary occupation was well drilling, but over his lifetime, he also worked as a farmer and welder, owned an antique shop and a small town restaurant. He lived in several areas of Minnesota as well as a brief time in California and several years in Alaska. He has lived in Brainerd since the early 1990s. He was a self-taught guitarist and occasionally played at barn dances as a young man. He enjoyed his grandchildren as well as fishing, playing cards (especially cribbage), playing pool and pitching horseshoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Irene; grandson, Clifford Gunvalson; son-in-law, Chester Anderson; sister, Doris Burns; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ervin, Toby (Vernon), Joseph and Rose, Victor and Ernest and Pearl.

He is survived by his children, Eldean S. Gunvalson of Farwell, MN and Sandra K. Anderson of Brainerd; grandchildren, Jeri Gunvalson, Joe Gunvalson, Heather Weber, Jason Meehan, Nikki Anderson and Ashley Anderson; great-grandsons, Bradley Huizinga and Zander Weber; brother and sisters-in-law, Curtis and Gen Gunvalson, Ethel Gunvalson and Lois Gunvalson as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter
