Harold Thompson, 93, of Crosslake, MN passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Golden Horizons in Crosslake, MN. Memorial Services will be on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 2:00PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, MN with Pastor Ken Carlton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be at Cokato Finnish Cemetery in Cokato, MN, at a later time.
Harold Arthur Thompson was born to Arthur and Minnie (Salmela) Thompson on March 12, 1923 in Cokato, MN. In high school, he was captain of the football and basketball teams. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Larimer on September 23, 1945 in Brainerd, MN. They resided in Cokato for over 50 years and raised four children. Harold was a truck driver with his dad, and for Super Valu, earning a safe driver award in 1967. He was a business man/entrepreneur, as well as the ultimate handy man and unofficial inventor of many and various gadgets. After he retired, he drove school bus for nine years, and then he and Lorraine moved to Crosslake in 1998. Harold enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with family. In his later years he enjoyed listening to music, and his favorite preachers, Charles Stanley and Erwin Lutzer, on the radio.
Harold is survived by Lorraine, his wife of 70 years; children, Bonnie (Paul) Nylin of Crosslake, MN, Ron Thompson of Fifty Lake, MN, and Trudi (Gene) Westberg of Rochester, MN; nine grandchildren; and thirty-four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lanette Marie Erickson; parents; brother, Stanley; sister, Evelyn Williams; and daughter-in-law, Holly Thompson. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, MN.
